During the early 1980s, the Concept 2 rowing machines were launched to the world. They are manufactured and shipped from Vermont, and the company produced this rowing machine just because they were so aware of the need to train during winter months. So it makes sense that designing a high quality rowing machine for use indoors would be a fantastic idea. From the get-go, this company aimed to use the best engineering and technology available in their rowers. The person writing this article, me of course, is a Concept 2 user, and I truly can tell you how happy I am with their product. So I'll discuss some important information in this review of Concept 2 rowing workout machines.

The options are pretty straightforward, you can get the Model D or the Model E. If you wish to spend less, then the Model D is what you want to get. The essential accessory that goes with every Concept 2 rower is the PM3 or PM4 performance monitor. If you prefer a better monitor with the Model D rowing exercise machine, then you will have to opt for the D model with the improved monitor. The pricier Model E always has the PM4 with it as the primary monitor. You can expect to shell up to $350 more with the Model E rowing machine, and the Model D rowing machine has two different prices for the upgrades.

What is very helpful during exercising is you can use the performance monitors to watch your heart rate while exercising. Your pulse is monitored by a gadget that straps across your chest. There is no discomfort having it strapped as it is very thin with an adjustable spandex strap. I can tell you from personal experience that you'll never know a heart rate monitor is strapped across your chest while you are working out. The heart rate monitor is also a wireless device, so that means no wires are going to be swinging off of you.

The Concept 2 design uses a flywheel assembly that you will use to produce the resistance and feel of rowing. There are no safety issues with this as it is completely covered in a plastic assembly. You will find a mechanical resistance adjustment for harder or less challenging rowing. If you are thinking this is something that will create noise, then that is not the case as it is very quiet. The flywheel revolves when you row, and it produces a soft air movement that is very quiet. This moving air sound from the flywheel assembly is similar to a fan that is moving slowly. Unless someone in the other room is a very light sleeper, you won't be disturbing other people.

You can track your rowing speed, plus other information, from the PM3 or PM4 monitoring devices. There are enough data types to fulfill the needs of either professional rowers or someone who wants a great exercise. Your approach will mostly depend on by your current fitness level and general reason for using the rowing machine. Assuming you are a competitive rower, you will most likely track the different stats from other competitive rowers.
